Frequently Asked Questionsfaq

  • Why do I need to make an appointment to try on wedding gowns? You will need to make an appointment in order to give you the full attention of our experienced consultants and to ensure a dressing room, appointments are required.
  • How long is my appointment? Bridal gown appointments last 1½ – 2 hours. Bridesmaids are allocated 1.5 hours. Mothers gowns appointments last 1 hour.
  • What should I bring to my appointment? Bring pictures of dresses you’ve seen on our website, in magazines, on www.theknot.com, or that you’ve tried on elsewhere. And always bring an open mind: don’t be surprised if you find the dress on your first visit to The Blushing Bride. We have plenty shoes and undergarments for you to use when you try on gowns.
  • Who should I bring to my appointment? Bring the closest friend or family member whose opinion you value and who knows you well and with whom you want to share the experience of buying your gown. Bringing more than 3 others can take the focus off of you.
  • What size gowns are available for me to try on? Most of our samples are the traditional sample size, which is 10. We do have some designs available in sizes 2-8 and some in sizes 12-20. We do have ways of helping you see what the gowns will look like on you in your appropriate size.
  • May I take pictures of the gowns while I try them on? We do allow cameras in the fitting areas while you are shopping. We do suggest limiting those pictures to your top picks as to not take pictures of gowns you are not interested in wearing on your wedding day.
  • When should I order my veil and/or headpiece? Special-order designer veils have a 3-4 months lead-time, so making a decision at the time you order your gown is helpful as the veil and or headpiece will arrive and be here when your gown arrives. We do offer a custom veil and headpiece appointment for our brides with an experienced Millinary professional, these appointments are offered every 3 months.
  • Can I complete my entire look in one appointment? Absolutely! Not only do many brides find their dress on their first visit to our salon, but they also find all their accessories (veils, headpieces, shoes, jewelry, etc.) on their first visit.
  • Do I need to make an appointment to look at accessories? Accessiories such as veils and headpieces may require a dressing room as to see what your gown will look like with a certain veil and or headpiece, we do ask that on a Saturday, you book a room to try on those items, you can however, walk-in to view our jewelry selection and shoe selection.

Buying

  • How far in advance do I need to buy my gown? It’s best to allow 12-9 months before your wedding to order a gown.
  • What is a special-order gown? Most of the gowns we sell are special-order. A special-order gown is made specifically for you by a designer, based on the measurements we take from you, the designer then uses their pattern that is closest to your measurements to create your gown. We then fit it to perfection for your body through our experienced seamstresses.
  • When should I expect to receive my gown? Your gown typically arrives 4-6 months from the day you order your gown. The dress is delivered to us directly from the designer and we perform a thorough quality control check on each gown. Once we are satisfied the gown is perfect, we’ll call you to schedule a meeting with your gown and time for you to inspect your gown to your specifications, arrange shipping if necessary and final payment.
  • How do I pay for my gown? We accept American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa, as well as cash and personal checks. (Personal checks are only accepted for deposit, not final payment)

If you are ordering a special-order gown, we require atleast a 50% deposit at the time you order your gown. When the gown arrives at The Blushing Bride and passes our quality control check, we’ll contact you to let you know and to schedule your first meeting. At that point, we require payment of the remaining 50% balance.

If you are buying a sample gown off our rack, we require 100% payment and ask that you take the dress with you that day, if you require storage at our facility, we do offer that at $10 per month.

If you’ve requested that we ship your gown out of state, your balance must be paid for in full before it can be shipped.

  • Can I get a swatch of the color of my gown? We will be happy to take a small sample from our swatch cards and give those to you, you will only receive one swatch of fabric per color of gown. Some fabrics are not readily available for the Blushing Bride to have extra swatches for our customers, we will order a special swatch if we do not have it free of charge and will arrive in our salon in 2-3 weeks.
  • What are the price ranges for your gowns? Our special-order bridal gowns start at $900, but are more frequently in the $1200 range or higher. Off-the-rack samples can be much less, discounted up to 70% or more off.

First Meeting

  • When shall I schedule my first meeting? We’ll contact you when your dress is in and ready for you to schedule a first meeting; generally, that will be about 4-6 months after you place your order.
  • What should I bring to my first meeting? You should bring the shoes and undergarments you’ll wear on your wedding day in order to see how your gown fits through the bodice and hemline. Plan to come to the store at least 30 minutes before your first meeting appointment to get them, if you haven’t already.

Shipping

  • Will you ship my gown out of state for me? Not a problem. We can ship a dress anywhere you’d like. Shipping fees apply.

Alterations

  • When should I schedule my first fitting? We’ll contact you when your dress is in and ready for you to schedule a fitting; generally, that will be about 8 weeks before your wedding day.
  • What should I bring to my first fitting? You should bring the shoes and undergarments you’ll wear on your wedding day in order to have your gown properly fit through the bodice and hemline. Plan to come to the store at least 30 minutes before your fitting appointment to get them, if you haven’t already.
  • How many fittings will I need? Usually, brides require 2-3 fittings to ensure a perfect look. After the final fitting, we will press and pack your gown for you to take home or for shipping.

Other

  • Do you have dresses for my mother or future mother-in-law? Yes, we have a large selection of special-order eveningwear for mothers.
  • What is a trunk show? A trunk show is a special in-store event, lasting one to three days, where you can view and buy from a designer’s latest collection that is not normally carried in our store. If you find the dress of your dreams at a trunk show, be prepared to make a decision that day, as the gown will not be in the store once the trunk show is over. Blushing Bride hosts a 2 trunk shows per bridal designer every year. Check our blog for upcoming Trunk Shows or Sample Sale Events.
  • HELP! I’m getting married less than 4 months  is it too late to get a gown from you? No, it’s not too late, but every second counts! Your options include buying one of our samples off the rack or working with a consultant to determine which designers can meet your time frame for a “special order” gown, which could include an additional rush charge.
  • What is a rush order? If your wedding date is sooner than the time we typically need to have a special-order gown made, we’ll need to consult with the designer and place a rush order, for an additional fee. In this instance, your gown may arrive 1-3 weeks before your wedding and details will be outlined in your contract.
  • What if I’m not happy with my consultant? That’s not acceptable: we want your experience in our store to be as memorable as your wedding day. If you find that you are not bonding with your consultant, please  ask to speak to a manager or to owner, Sandy, right away. We’ll make arrangements for you to work with someone else to make sure you have a memorable experience.
